Supporting the Mind

Counselling therapy is available, utilising evidenced based psychological approaches – in addition to a more transpersonal orientation for those wishing to incorporate a more spiritual or soul driven perspective.

I have training and experience in various approaches, including most used in formal psychotherapeutic practice: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Interpersonal Therapy; Trauma Focused Therapy and Transpersonal Psychology.

Confusing? Not at all…When working with particular counselling approaches we’re in effect, working with stories….and they’re not so far apart in their orientation.

I liken it to the ‘Serenity Prayer’ of Dr Rheinhold Niebuhr:

“Grant me the Serenity to

Accept the things I cannot change (acceptance and mindfulness approaches)

Courage to change the things I can (cognitive and problem solving approaches)

And Wisdom to know the difference (values, wise mind, transpersonal approaches)

…..And in this way opening to grace and the joy and peace that comes with it.

As we learn to take the opportunities that life presents us…the Storm Surges, we are able to lift ourselves to higher ground rather than be ravaged against the rocks…. do we allow ourselves to become overwhelmed, or do we chose to grow through our experience?
